In-Clinic Appointment
Personal face-to-face interaction with our staff at our clinic. Measurements and bloodwork are taken on site.

Do you qualify for WIC?
WIC is open to women, infants, and children who meet all five eligibility criteria below. There is no residency requirement for the length of time in the state.
WIC Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must meet every category to qualify.
Categorical Eligibility
- Pregnant women - eligible during pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after birth or end of pregnancy
- Breastfeeding women - eligible up to infant's first birthday as long as breastfeeding
- Postpartum women - eligible up to 6 months after birth or end of pregnancy
- Infants - eligible up to first birthday
- Children - eligible up to 5th birthday
Residency
Must live in the state of North Carolina. No residency length requirement.
Income Eligibility
Must meet income guidelines - generally at or below 185% of the federal poverty level. Automatic eligibility if participating in Medicaid, Food Stamps (SNAP), or Work First.
Nutrition Assessment
Applicants must meet with a nutritionist for an assessment and consultation to discuss nutritional needs and how WIC can assist.

You must bring identifying documents to your first appointment.

Mother-to-Mother Support
GVPH features a bilingual Peer Counselor who provides guidance in both English and Spanish, sharing her personal breastfeeding experiences with her own children.
Designated Breastfeeding Experts
All WIC Nutritionists are trained as Designated Breastfeeding Experts with over 100 hours of specialized training in complex breastfeeding issues.
Enhanced Food Benefits
Breastfeeding mothers receive an enhanced food package including canned tuna or salmon, extra whole grains, cereal, milk, cheese, beans, peas, and lentils.
Breastfeeding Aids
WIC provides essential aids including manual and electric breast pumps to support your breastfeeding needs at home or on the go.
Peer Counselor Program (BFPC)
WIC Peer Counselors are moms just like you - they contact moms during pregnancy, follow up through weaning, and refer to lactation experts or healthcare providers.
